Every family tells a story.
Some stories are filled with laughter around the dinner table. Others are filled with silence that lasts for years.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something important.
The family we’re born into shapes us.
The family we choose can heal us.
Blood may introduce us to people, but love, trust, and consistency are what turn relationships into family.
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet people throughout my life who weren’t related to me at all, yet they’ve shown up in ways some relatives never could.
That’s not an insult to family.
It’s a reminder that family is bigger than genetics.
Blood isn’t the only thing that creates family.
- Friends become family through consistency.
- Healthy boundaries don’t mean you love someone less.
- Forgiveness and reconciliation aren’t always the same thing.
- Sometimes loving someone means loving them from a distance.
- Make room at your table for people who’ve earned a seat there.
At the end of the day, family isn’t measured by a last name.
It’s measured by who answers the phone.
Who checks on you?
Who celebrates your wins.
Who stays when life gets messy.
Those are the people who deserve a chair at your table.
