Stop Waiting for Perfect. You’re already ready.
There was a time—not all that long ago—when I was holding myself back.
Not because I didn’t have ideas.
Not because I didn’t have experience.
And definitely not because I didn’t have something worth saying.
I was waiting for everything to be perfect.
The perfect setup.
The perfect format.
The perfect moment.
The perfect version of me.
Sound familiar?
The Advice I Wasn’t Taking
Here’s the ironic part.
For years, I’ve told people the same thing:
Stop waiting for perfect. It doesn’t exist.
I’ve watched talented people delay launching businesses, creating content, chasing dreams, or making changes because they thought they needed one more piece of equipment, one more class, one more sign that the timing was finally right.
Then one day I looked in the mirror and realized…
I was doing the exact same thing.
I wasn’t taking my own advice.
The Conversation That Changed Everything
Sometimes it takes someone who knows you well to call you out.
I was talking with my friend Jarrell, just doing what I normally do—telling stories, making jokes, sharing experiences—and he stopped me.
He basically said,
“That’s the guy people need to hear.”
That hit me harder than he probably realized.
Because he was right.
The version of me people saw online wasn’t the same guy they knew in real life.
I had been filtering myself.
Holding back stories.
Holding back opinions.
Holding back personality.
Trying to be polished instead of authentic.
Experience Is Worth Sharing
When I really sat down and thought about it, I realized something.
I’ve been creating for more than 25 years.
I’ve worked as a photographer.
I’ve edited videos long before editing was as simple as dragging clips around on a timeline.
I’ve made music.
I’ve DJ’d.
I’ve written.
I’ve worked in places most people only hear stories about.
Every one of those experiences taught me something.
Some lessons came from success.
Others came from spectacular mistakes.
But they’re all part of the story.
And stories are meant to be shared.
Someone Has Less Than You… and Is Doing More
This was another reality check I needed.
I own gear today that I once dreamed about.
Yet there are creators producing incredible work with far less.
They’re not waiting.
They’re creating.
Meanwhile, I was sitting there convincing myself I needed something else before I could move forward.
That mindset had to go.
Your greatest asset isn’t your camera.
It isn’t your microphone.
It isn’t your editing software.
It’s your perspective.
Nobody else has lived your life.
Nobody else tells your stories the way you do.
The Perfect Time Is Right Now
If you’re waiting for permission, this is it.
If you’re waiting until everything feels ready…
It probably never will.
Growth doesn’t happen before you begin.
It happens because you begin.
You’ll improve by doing.
You’ll learn by making mistakes.
You’ll find your voice by using it.
Welcome to the Next Chapter
That’s why I stopped holding back.
Hey, Uncle Tuck isn’t about pretending to have all the answers.
It’s about sharing what I’ve learned, telling the stories that shaped me, and hopefully helping someone else avoid a few unnecessary bumps along the way.
Life has given me plenty of lessons.
It’s time I started telling them.
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this, it’s simple:
Don’t wait for perfect.
Perfect has been keeping people stuck for far too long.
Start where you are.
Use what you have.
And trust that the rest will come with time.
