Your Job Is What You Do. It Should Never Become Who You Are.

I’ve met people who introduce themselves by their job title before they ever tell you their name.

I get it.

Work matters.

I’ve worked in television.

Photography.

Video production.

Podcasting.

Web development.

Every one of those careers became part of my story.

But none of them became all of it.

Because one day…

Every job changes.

Companies close.

People retire.

Technology evolves.

If your entire identity is tied to your career, what happens when your career changes?

  • Be Proud of your work
  • Never confuse your worth with your paycheck
  • Learn new skill continuously
  • Build relationships, not just résumés
  • Create something that is yours
  • Leave work at work whenever you can
  • Leave work at work whenever you can.

A career should help you build a life.

It shouldn’t require you to sacrifice the very life you’re trying to build.

Do work you’re proud of.

But don’t forget to go home.

The people waiting there won’t remember your job title.

They’ll remember whether you were present.
